Contrasting images from a spring day

Filed under: — site admin @ 8:47 pm

I couldn’t help but take my camera with me when I walked the dog after work this afternoon. The sky was full of dull white and randomly spaced clouds. I figured I might catch one of those dramatic skylines like you see in National Geographic magazine.

I didn’t.

LOL

But I did capture two images that upon second thought made me realize how interesting the natural world can be simply in the way it presents contrasting scenes. In this case on the same day and within eyesight of each other.

For the gadget geeks among you, these were both taken with my Nikon D50 using the fabulous Nikkor 28-105mm 3.5-4.5D. It’s too bad they no longer make this lens. Even with the crop factor on the D50 this is still a nice all-around lens that’s sharp for its class and long enough to just grab the odd tele shot. It has now replaced my 28-70 that I sold to a friend a few weeks ago. And I don’t miss that old lens one bit. :)

Spring photos

Filed under: — site admin @ 5:34 am

Although neither of these pics was actually taken in the spring (both were taken in July of last summer) they both still remind me of spring. And today was such a sunny and warn spring morning when I took the dog out for a walk I thought I should post something that reflected the feeling of the day. So here are some summer photos fit for a spring morning. :)

Photos to share

Filed under: — site admin @ 4:24 pm

I thought it was time to add something new to the Unofficial LEGO Builder’s Guide blog, so I’ve decided to add a category called “Photography". In this category I will be posting some of my photographs and/or thoughts about photography. It’s another of my many hobbies, though one that I enjoy more than most of the others. To get you started, here are a couple of random pics I pulled out of my digital portfolio:

Morning Lion

Petal

I decided to present these two images to present together because they both have a softeness to them, though for different reasons.

The first is our cat Izzy (featured in the Mosaics chapter of ULBG) taken early one morning in natural light.

The second was taken last spring in a public garden not far from where I work.

Both pics were taken with my Nikon D50. I’ll post more about it later. It’s one of my favorite gadgets…. ever. :)
